Hello There Friends and Fellow People with Excellent Taste in music!
I hope everyone is staying cool! I just wanted to let everyone know that we have an amazing show this Friday at Webster Hall with the legendary Kim Lenz! It is early, from 6pm-11pm. It's been a litle crazy over here between all of the shows, getting ready for the Luau, and my band just released a new EP! Check out the recordings streaming online here.
****************ABOUT THE BANDS***************
Flame-haired keeper of the rockabilly flame Kim Lenz comes into her own on her long-awaited third album, It's All True The sound is as vintage and pure as it's always been, seemingly recorded into a single ribbon microphone in complete takes, with the Jaguars ripping it up behind her gutsy vocals. Guitarist Nick Curran throws some surprising touches into his fleet solos, while bassist Jake Erwin and drummer Scotty Tecce keep the songs popping and bouncing. As befits a Texas native, Lenz keeps a country twang and a Buddy Holly-esque hiccup prominent in her delivery, though she can shout the walls down with all the force of Wanda Jackson or Janis Martin. Of course, she can also slow it down and get seductive when she wants to, as demonstrated by the swinging, bluesy "I'll Tell You When" and the country-tinged lament "I Break a Heart Every Night." Unlike many modern rockabilly acts, she also writes the lioness' share of her material -- eight of the album's twelve tracks are Lenz originals, including one co-written with rockabilly revival king Big Sandy. But the album's tone is most strongly set by its opening and closing tracks, "Touch Me" and "Shined Up and Ready to Shout." They're fast, furious, and guaranteed to get toes tapping and dancers spinning on the floor.
SIMON AND THE BAR SINISTERS
Led by guitar virtuoso Simon Chardiet, with Scott Kitchen on bass, Glenn Healy on drums and Raven on alto sax, Simon and the Bar Sinisters make music that is truly unclassifiable. Chardiet shifts effortlessly, both in terms of guitar and vocal style, from rockabilly to Big Star-type pop to snarling British punk, and then onto ZZ Top-ish riffing. Listening to Simon could be a shortcut to a more complete musical education. Seeing him live is more like receiving a guitar lesson. Throw in some NYC bad attitude ("I'd Be Grateful if You Were Dead") into the mix, then stir, and you have some serious gumbo.
HIGH TEEN BOOGIE
We are all JAPANESE GIRL BAND. We live in NYC. And we are Rock'n'Roll band since 1997. OK?
HighTeen Boogie is like fine sake and sword. Straight forward, no bull shit, all Japanese girl trio band with killer tunes and a pure sense of Rock 'n’ Roll. Fast and tough thundering bass and drums, over the edge guitar, and radical lyrics make them more than just another cute girl band. Their influences are classic punk with an undercurrent of boogie and blues and rockabilly.
THE SCREAMING REBEL ANGELS
Screamin’ Rebel Angels' debut EP “Pounce Like A Tiger,” contains 5 Ragin’ Tracks of Rock n Roll Madness sure to be the soundtrack to any delinquent's road to ruin. This high energy foursome is exploding onto the Northeast scene with an intensity and honesty seldom seen in music today. Stemming from Laura Rebel Angel's powerful vocals ‘n dirty guitar licks and Brian Hack's pioneering dexterity on the fretboard, coupled with Kevin Hudson’s hypnotic drumming rhythm and Yoni Benshlomo’s cunning bass lines on upright, Screamin’ Rebel Angels' live shows are non-stop high energy. Whether they're swinging off the rafters or rolling around on the beer-soaked stage, Screamin’ Rebel Angels are here to put the grit and sweat back into rock n roll and you will be entertained!
